Tatton Teaser: The race for AI

Posted 4 May 2023

The popularity of the web based artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT –  which surpassed 1bn users in March 2023 –  has in many ways brought to the light the appetite and importance of user focused AI. The race is definitely on for the most sophisticated language tools and cutting-edge decision-making technologies from both the incumbent household name technology firms and also from smaller startup firms. It’s led to huge growth in investment over the last 10 years, in the form of mergers and acquisition, public offerings and minority stakes – this January Microsoft announced a $10bn stake in OpenAI. Whilst the cost of financing these investments has certainly increased over the last year, will we see continued huge spending in the race for the most sophisticated AI tools?
